International Jugglers Festival
Venue Requirements
If you know of a site that might be good for a future IJA summer
festival, please compare it to the venue requirements below. If you
think it's a good match, please send the site information, including

Plan: 6-day juggling festival: 2nd, 3rd or 4th week of July or 1st week of August.
Main Juggling Facility
- Juggling space - 25,000 to 35,000 s.f. - No obstructions
- Type of floor surface: wood, neoprene, etc.
Concrete would need to be covered.
- Cost per day. 5 days plus 2 half-days, set- up/strike.
- Hours available (24 hours preferred).
Two hour shut down for cleaning ok (6 a.m. - 8 a.m.)
- Board Room
- History Lounge
- 4-5 Workshop spaces/1,000 to 3,000 s.f.
- Two rooms for preliminaries (racquetball courts are ideal).
- IJA Lock-up room
- Vendor Lock-up room
- 3 dedicated telephone lines
- Security - IJA staff acceptable?
- Distance from housing
- Concession availability
- Air-conditioned
- High ceilings/good lighting - no chandeliers
- Facility rules: alcohol beverages, fire, sharp objects
- Wheelchair accessibility
- Parking adequate? Permits required? Cost?
Housing
- Dorm rooms - number of beds available (single, double, suites)
Minimum - 600 bedspaces. Cost.
- What linens are included with room? Cost of extra linens?
- Extra people in rooms? Can children sleep on floor?
Discounted rates for children?
- Availability of rooms for early arrivals and for those who want
to
stay longer. Rooms available to those who just show up.
- Air-conditioned.
- Laundry facilities.
- Wheelchair accessibility and handicapped bathrooms.
- Parking permits. Cost.
- RV parking: Hook-ups?
How many spaces?
- Camping availability: Tent sites - how many?
Shower facilities.
Cost.
- Alternate hotels - Special rates for IJA guests.
- Distance from airport.
Food Service
- Options to IJA as far as various meal plans and
cost.
- What is included on meal plans? Do we have menu options?
- Options to non-meal plan attendees:
- Cost of eating through food service
- Can they eat with meal plan attendees
- Other area eateries and approximate costs
- Is there one dining room so jugglers can eat
together?
- Vegetarian options (the IJA has many vegetarian members).
- Is meal plan mandatory?
Theatre
- Shows/Championships: 1,000-2,000 seats
- Cost of theatre:
- Rental fee - what does rent include?
Cost of:
- Box office service
- Front-of-House Staff
- Light/Sound
- Security
- Tech crew
- Extra fees: Does the house take a percentage of
gross sales?
- Is theatre a union house? Can we bid out lighting and sound?
- Can we use our own stage hands, ticket takers, ushers and
security?
- Number of dressing rooms: number of showers, mirrored rooms,
rooms with juggling space, etc.
- Space for judges table if possible. Front row seating with
clipboards otherwise.
- Concession.
- Mandatory intermission? How long?
- Facility rules: Fire? Fire Marshall required.
- When is space available for rehearsals and technical set-up?
When is strike time?
- Distance from juggling facility and housing to theatre. Is
busing required? Cost.
